PURPOSE:A zeolite mainly composed of metallosilicate containing iron and aluminum in its skeleton is used as a catalyst to produce the title compound of high purity from methanol and/or dimethyl ether in high yield and selectivity. CONSTITUTION:A zeolite mainly composed of crystalline metallocilicate containing iron and aluminum in its skeleton, preferably ZSM-5 or a substance resembling it in the silica skeletal structure, is used as a catalyst, to effect the reaction of methanol and/or dimethyl ether at 320-500 deg.C under normal p[ressure to a little elevated pressure to give pseudocumene or durene. The catalyst is prepared by the hydrothermal reaction of aluminum source, silica sources, iron sources and crystallzer in an aqueous medium. |
