The power supplied to an electrical appliance 2 can be adjusted from any one of a multiplicity of positions 1???N by first closing a switch K at that position and then adjusting an associated potentiometer P whereby a control potential is applied to a circuit 1. Provided that the control potential and its rate of change are below predetermined limits, the circuit 1 controls the appliance in dependence on the control potential and the circuit 1 has a memory which stores the last received control potential. Each switch K only remains closed while the associated potentiometer is being set, the switch and potentiometer being combined as a diaphragm potentiometer wherein a connection is created by pressing a diaphragm and the pressing position determines the potentiometer adjustment level. <IMAGE> |
