PURPOSE: To impart a certain degree of transparency to a device and to form an optical variable pigment to be used in the solution of ink, for example, by forming symmetrical there layer coating, in which a transparent dielectric layer is provided between 1st and 2nd partially permeable absorption layers on a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION: Symmeytrical there layer coating 16 in which a transparent dielectric spacer layer 19 of low refraction factor such as MgF is provided between 1st and 2nd partially permeable absorption layers 17 and 18 of gray metal layers is formed on a transparent substrate 12. In this case, the part of incident light reflected on the 2nd absorption layer 18 is interferred with light reflected on the 1st absorption layer 17 and coloring is applied. Then, the wavelength to interfer the reflected light from the absorption layer 17 with the reflected light from the absorption layer 18 is controlled by the thickness of the dielectric spacer layer 19. Therefore, the combination of high reflectance concerning a certain wavelength and low reflectance concerning the other wavelength applies coloring to the optical variable device. Thus, a certain degree of transparency can be imparted to the device to be applied for a lot of various usages.
