PURPOSE:To obtain isoprene advantageously in reacting an isobutylene source material with a sormaldehyde source material in the liquid-phase one stage reaction, by using a heteropoly-acid containing tungsten, molybdenum and/or vanadium as a condensed coordinating element as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An isobutylene source material selected from isobutylene, a tertiary butanol and an alkyl-tert-butyl ether is reacted with a formaldehyde source material in the presence of a heteropoly-acid containing an element selected from tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium as a condensed coordinating element in the liquid phase to give isoprene in one stage. Preferably, water in an amount of 60-1,500pts.wt., preferably 80-1,000pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. isobutylene source is used. This method has the following advantages: Higher selectivity and less corrosion of apparatuses than the well-known liquid-phase one stage method without limitation on the kind of raw materials to be used. |
