The invention concerns a method and arrangement for evaporation of water-containing liquids in which some of the evaporated water is removed in the form of high pressure steam and the remainder evaporated in an expansion evaporator in several stages. The evaporation method is characterized by particularly low specific steam consumption. According to the invention it is proposed that high-pressure steam be generated in an evaporation stage 17 that is coupled in the liquid circulation loop of the expansion evaporator.
