NEW MATERIAL:An optically active monoester compound which is an optically active cis-endo-2-acyloxymethyl-3-hydroxymethylbicyclo[2,2,2]octa-5-ene expressed by formula I or formula II (R is 1-15C alkyl). EXAMPLE:Optically active cis-endo-2-acetyloxymethyl-3-hydroxymethylbicyclo[2,2,2]octa-5-ene. USE:An intermediate for medicine, etc. PREPARATION:cis-endo-Bicyclo[2,2,2]octa-5-ene-2,3-dimethanol expressed by formula III is subjected to esterinterchange reaction with a fatty acid alkylester, fatty acid vinylester or triglyceride using an esterase to provide the optically active monoester compound expressed by formula I or formula II.
