PURPOSE:To obtain the objective substance at a lower temperature, in higher yield and higher selectivity than those of conventional method without using a corrosion-resistant, expensive device in producing propylene by dehydrating isopropanol by feeding the raw material in a gaseous state to a solid catalytic layer under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Isopropanol (raw material) in a gaseous state is fed to a solid catalytic layer comprising preferably gamma-alumina catalyst, especially one having 30-150Angstrom average pore diameter and 10-40Angstrom standard deviation thereof obtained by statistic calculation based on correlation between pore diameter and pore volume in a manner to satisfy the formula [M is number of mols of raw material fed per hour; R is gas constant (0.082; atm/deg mol); T is temperature ( deg.K) of catalytic temperature; pi=3.14; r is radium (cm) of section of catalytic layer in the vertical direction based on flow direction of raw material] and the raw material is dehydrated to give propylene useful as a raw material for polyolefin industrially and advantageously by effectively utilizing especially by-product ammonia by cumene process. |
