PURPOSE:To improve the strength of the end face of the plate catalyst without embrittling the base material fibers of the catalyst by coating the end face of the catalyst with a reinforcing material consisting of inorg. particles consisting of inorg. aggregate particle and aggregate particles of specific grain sizes and silicate. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst material 2 consisting essentially of titanium oxide is applied on the substrate of a woven fabric 3 of inorg. fibers. The end face of the catalyst is coated with the reinforcing material 4 which contains 28 to 41wt.% inorg. particles consisting of the inorg. aggregate particles of silica, magnesia, etc., having 180 to 800mum grain size and the aggregate particles or fine catalyst particles of <=20mum particles and consists of the balance silicate, such as sodium silicate and calcium silicate. The catalyst is thereafter dried and calcined. The strength of the end face, such as dislodgment of the catalyst and wear resistance of the end face is improved in this way. |
