IMPROVING STORAGE STABILITY OF OILS

A method and apparatus for the improvement of storage stability of oils contacts them with an at least partly organic solvent solution comprising an oxidising agent and an acid and then separates said oil and solution. The solvent is wholly or substantially immiscible with the oil and preferably of a different density to it. The oxidising agent and the acid may conveniently comprise the same compound but preferably comprise separate components, particularly an oxidising valency of a transition metal and an organic sulphonic acid respectively.
