PURPOSE:To obtain an aluminum titanate sintered body having superior mechanical strength by sintering an aluminum titanate molded body in a heating zone while moving in a direction intersecting the heating zone to grow the grains in one direction. CONSTITUTION:An aluminum titanate (Al2TiO3) molded body is sintered in a heating zone while moving in a direction intersecting the heating zone to grow the grains in one direction and a desired sintered body is obtd. When this sintered body microcracks at the grain boundary during cooling, the microcracks are in a direction perpendicular to the growth direction of the grains and in a direction parallel to the growth direction. Since the microcracks in the parallel direction are very smaller than those in the perpendicular direction, superior bendability in the perpendicular direction or superior tensile stress in the transverse direction is ensured. |
