PURPOSE:To enhance the response characteristic of an oxygen sensor by providing a baked body wherein glass or vitreous substance is blended with ceramic or a ceramic mixture between an electrode and the glass seal material wholly covering the electrode. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 11, 12 to which predetermined voltage is applied are provided to the respective surfaces of an ion conductor 10 composed of a solid electrolyte and the concn. of oxygen in the circumference is measured from the current value of the ion current flowing between the electrodes 11, 12. At this time, a ceramic baked body 13 wherein glass or vitreous substance is blended with ceramic or a ceramic mixture is provided between the electrode 11 and the glass seal material 14 wholly covering the electrode 11. In the baking process of the baked body 13, glass is melted so as to cover the surfaces of ceramic particles and fixed to the ceramic particles in the succeeding cooling process so as to be concentrated in the vicinity of the contact points of the ceramic particles because of the surface tension of glass. By this method, a porous body having uniform and constant voids and high strength is obtained and the gas diffusion chamber formed of the voids are made stable and optimum to make it possible to set the optimum response characteristics. |
