The lightweight hub (1) is for the rear wheel of a bicycle. The hub is constructed from a tube made from carbon fibres, or aluminium or titanium. A flange is bonded to each end of this tube by means of adhesive. Each flange has radial holes with screw threads to receive the inner ends of the spokes. This method of attaching the spokes reduces weight and also reduces the risk of spoke breakage. A free wheel with a group of sprockets is attached to one side of the hub in the case where the bicycle is fitted with a variable ratio gear. USE - Lightweight bicycles.
