The protected probe is used for measuring gas or gas/air mixtures in areas exposed to danger of explosions. The sieve-like, corrosion-resistant blocking plate is held in a frame. A layer of glass balls or sand is installed between the blocking plate and the probe. The layer (3) is accommodated in a housing (1). Both interface sides of the latter have covering blocking plates (2). The layer (3) completely fills the inner space formed in the housing. Each side of the blocking plates facing the other lies in an extension (5) of the housing wall. The outer edge of each blocking plate is covered by a collar (4) of the housing. ADVANTAGE - Cheap prodn. and working costs. Separate part which can be readily changed if damaged or otherwise made unusable.
