The clamping mechanism for a document file comprises a baseplate, a hinging frame, two supporting bars, a lever and a clamp. The baseplate (11) has two stepped holes (12) at the back on either side, and which accommodates the stepped bottom ends (34) of the bars (31). A one-piece connecting plate (15) extending upwards from the baseplate engages with the lever (22), while a leaf spring (14) in front of it acts on the hinging frame (21) under control of the lever. Clips (25) on two neck portions (24) of the frame have hooked ends (252) engaging with the baseplate. A control grip (42) has a one-piece insert (43) causing two steel wires (44) to grip the supporting bars.
