<p>PURPOSE:To prevent steering lock due to the malfunction of a drive mechanism by shielding always the area between the first and second gear parts through a shielding member to make an unengageable condition, and opening the area between the first and second gear parts only when a prescribed drive mechanism is operated to make an engageable condition. CONSTITUTION:A fixed shaft 4 is journaled to a fixed bracket 1 and a movable bracket 2 is held so that it can move only in an axial direction, and a movable shaft 6 where a steering wheel is fixed on the movable bracket 2 is journaled. Both the shafts 4, 6 are serration-connected to make a relative movement through a screw shaft 10 and so forth by the rotation of a motor rotating shaft 7a. In this case, the first gear part 14 is formed at the outer periphery of a lock block 12 provided in the fixed shaft 4, and the second gear part 15 is formed at the inner periphery of the movable bracket 2 to fit shielding levers 17, 18 which shield the second gear part 15 to the movable bracket 2. The second gear part 15 is opened only when a solenoid 22 is operated for engagement with the first gear part 14.</p> |
