Starter systems for initiating the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds based on organo-boron compounds which react with oxygen in combination with carriers inert to oxygen are characterized in that they contain oligoesters of low hydroxycarboxylic acids as carriers. The invention also concerns the use of these starter systems in technical adhesive systems, and in particular in surgery and/or dentistry for hardening bioresorbable or bioresistant adhesives, cements and/or fillers or for constructing plastic preforms.
