To locate and secure the end of yarn wound round a bobbin, whether the yarn end is within or on the outside of the bobbin, the bobbin is rotated in the unwinding direction while suction detaches the yarn end. The yarn end is loosened and unwound while being drawn through a suction funnel until a sensor registers a preset length and stops the bobbin rotation and suction action. The yarn end is held in the suction tube by the residual air present, or by a clamp, and cutter severs the yarn to the required length. The bobbin is removed for further use or storage, and the located yarn end at the same time is secured in a conveyor and stacking unit. ADVANTAGE - The method prepares bobbins of various types in random presentation, for onward delivery as fit for further working with loosened and caught wound yarn ends.
