<p>PURPOSE:To perform proper judgment whether a catalytic converter is normal or not by making comparative determination in exhaust gas the catalytic converter is within a predetermined range or not. CONSTITUTION:Pressure sensors 3 - 5 are arranged on upstream side of a catalytic converter 1, between the catalytic converter 1, and a muffler 2, and the downstream side of the muffler 2. A controller 6 determines whether the catalytic converter 1 is normal or not based on information from the pressure sensors 3 - 5. Namely, if a pressure drop through the catalytic converter 1 is too mall or too great, the controller determines that its cell portion has become hollow or has been clogged as a result of melting or breakage damage of the catalyst 1a so that the catalytic converter is not functioning properly. If the catalytic converter 1 is determined to be abnormal, an alarm lamp 7 is lit based on the signal from the controller 6. This makes it possible to properly determine constantly whether the catalytic converter 1 is functioning normally or abnormally.</p> |
