PURPOSE: To position the printing trace on a web with high accuracy by providing a plurality of home position marks and a plurality of position marks which are arranged adjacent to each home position in an instructing means to generate the signal to instruct the position of a label relative to the printing position. CONSTITUTION: A detector 50 comprises a light-emitting diode 138 and a light detector 140, and detects a mark provided on a disk 51 as a series of the light contrast such as an opaque part and a transparent part. A motor 48 is driven, a slot 148 and the transition from the opaque area present therebetween are detected, and the signal to indicate the transition is added to a control processor 130. The control processor 130 generates the position pulse signal according to the transition, and adds it to a microprocessor 42 every time the transition is generated. The position signal is counted by the microprocessor 42, and the position of a label relative to the microprocessor 42 is determined. When a print head 66 is placed on the printing area, the inputted data is printed on a label 16. |
