PURPOSE:To attain accurate focus control focused to an object without background focusing by providing frames of 1st and 2nd areas in a packed-up pattern and detecting a ratio of high and low frequency components in each frame so as to discriminate whether the object is focused or the background is focused. CONSTITUTION:A ratio of a an integration value of a luminance component of a prescribed 1st frequency f1 to an integration value of a luminance component of a prescribed 2nd frequency f2 lower than the 1st frequency f1 is obtained in a 1st area a nearly in the middle of a pickup pattern. Then a ratio of an integration value of a luminance component of a prescribed 1st frequency f1 to an integration value of a luminance component of a prescribed 2nd frequency f2 lower than the 1st frequency f1 is obtained in a 2nd area b around the 1st area a and the focusing is discriminated by a difference between the ratio obtained in the 1st range a and the ratio obtained in the 2nd range b. When the ratio obtained in the 1st range a is larger than the ratio obtained in the 2nd range b, the focusing to the object is discriminated and when the ratio obtained in the 1st range a is smaller than the ratio obtained in the 2nd range b, the focusing to the background is discriminated. Thus, accurate focus control in focusing with the object without background focusing is attained. |
