The radar determines when it is at a predetermined distance from its nearest passing point to a nearby target. A beat signal [s(t)] formed between the transmitted signal 2 and the received signal 3 is applied to a transversal filter 7 capable of storing samples of the beat signal s(t) produced during a period ( ).The coefficients of this filter are the samples during the period ( ) ending at time (to) of a predetermined beat signal [so(t)] which is entirely fixed by a predetermined value ( theta ) of the relative velocity ( theta ) between radar and target and by a predetermined value (ho) of the radar with respect to the target. The detection of the maximum value of the output signal Y (n) of the filter 7 indicates that the parameters ( theta ) and (h) have the values ( theta ) and (ho) and that at the time of this detection the radar is at the distance x = theta oto from the passing point of the radar at the minimal distance from the target. <IMAGE> |
