PURPOSE:To attain associative retrieval applying the retrieved result of proper quality and quantity by calculating the probability of respective documents by using a prescribed calculation expression together with the previously calculated strength of relation between keywords and the degree of importance of keywords in a document and executing associative retrieval corresponding to the probability. CONSTITUTION:A keyword mutual connection 9 distributes a product Qk*Wkj obtained by multiplying a weight value Qk transferred from an input means 8 by a combining factor (strength of relation) Wkj to an intermediate layer 6. The combining factor Wkj is previously calculated by using a document to be a reference and the co- appearance frequency value of the keywords in respective documents. A keyword/ document connection 11 calculates the sum of products, executes the prescribed threshold processing of the sum and transfers the product Kj*Sji obtained by multiplying the processed result Kj by a combining factor (degree of importance) Sji to an output layer 7 as document probability Dj (j=1 to m). The combining factor Sji is also previously calculated by using the keyword appearance frequency in respective documents. Thus, associative retrieval applying the retrieved result of proper quality and quantity can be attained.
