The present invention is from the field of workshop tooling, and its subject is a device for holding in place a component of reasonably large surface area for the purpose of making a machining, or a cutout, each of which is straight, on it, the said component being kept clamped between an upper jaw and a lower jaw of elongate shape, which are articulated to one another at one of their ends. This device is characterised in that it comprises, for acting in combination, means (2) for articulating jaws (1, 3) in terms of horizontal pivoting with respect to the frame (5), the said horizontal pivoting means supporting means (4) for vertically pivoting the upper jaw with respect to the lower jaw, means (6) for adjusting the articulation of the upper jaw (1) with respect to the lower jaw (3) in terms of height, and means (8) for setting (wedging) the horizontal pivoting at the chosen angular value.
