Lateral shaking device for a machine for harvesting berries or fruits borne by plants, and more particularly for a grape harvesting machine, of the type including a straddling tunnel through which the vegetation passes in pace with the advancement of the machine, as well as a reciprocating lateral shaking assembly located in the said tunnel, including at least two shakers located symmetrically on either side of the row of vegetation, each shaker member, imparted with a reciprocating two-and-fro movement, consisting of a rod bent over on itself by at least 180 DEG and having a form similar to that of a hairpin, the two ends of the rod pointing forwards and the loop pointing backwards, characterised in that the two ends (10a-10b) of the rod (10) which is folded over onto itself are, both, carried by means (2-4; 2a-2b) to which a reciprocating rotational movement is imparted in a synchronous fashion. <IMAGE>
