The invention provides a method of treating fibrous cellulosic web for manufacture of corrugated or laminated sheets, tubes (10, 20) or other elements suitable for use in the building industry or for packing. The web (5) of material passes continuously through 3 separate chambers (1, 2, 3) before entering forming apparatus. The first chamber (1) contains a liquid for breaking down the fibres of the web (5); the second chamber (2) contains a liquid for impregnating the fibrous cellulosic web; and the third chamber (3) contains a liquid for enhancing the elasticity of the impregnated fibrous cellulosic web and for reducing the drying time of the web (5). During the forming of a corrugated product, a glue comprising an alkali metal silicate solution, an acetone solution and a hardener e.g. triacetin is used. The sheets (10) or tubes (20) or other elements formed in the forming process are then sprayed with a liquid for enhancing the resistance to water of the fibrous cellulosic web. The liquids can be used advantageously in other processes. |
