The subject of the present invention is a subframe and braking device for winders for storing webs of flexible material, including a cylindrical tube (6) receiving the said webs (1), the tube being mounted by any known means on fixed supports (3), and rotationally drivable by any known mechanical system rigidly attached to one end of the spindle (8) of the said tube. In one embodiment, the said end of the spindle (8) comprises a threaded part (10) and a knurled wheel (11) screwed onto it in such a way that, when the latter is unscrewed, the spindle (8) and the tube (6) are free to rotate and, when it is screwed on, the end face (16) of the said tube (6) rubs frictionally against the inner face (17) of the support (3) and brakes the rotation of the tube (6). <IMAGE>
