PURPOSE:To perform self-diagnosis by mounting a controller changing over a normal mode to a diagnostic mode in response to an interruption signal and a control means outputting a diagnostic result to a printing mechanism. CONSTITUTION:When the switch concerned of a panel switch 80 is pushed to generate a diagnostic demand, the judging circuit of a printer main body 90 judges the signal thereof as the diagnostic demand to generate an interruption signal 70. The interruption signal 70 is sent to a main processor 10 through the control signal interface 60 of a printer controller C to apply interruption. The main processor 10 changes over a control mode from the normal mode heretofore to a diagnostic mode and performs control due to the diagnostic program of a memory 20. In this diagnostic mode, the diagnosis of execution data, history data, hardware and the printing quality of a printer is executed and, on the basis of the diagnostic result, a predetermined character is generated by a character pattern generating part 40 to be sent to the printer main body 90 through a buffer 50 and printed out of the main body 90. |
