Continuous casting die for steel slab - has groove path at narrow sides to improve bonding of galvanised coating

Continuous casting die for steel slabs longitudinal groove path(s) with a depth of up to about 0.5 mm, formed before galvanising, on sealing the surfaces (4,4') between the surfaces of the narrow sides (5) and pressed in place. The galvanising metal is applied, and mechanically finished to give a smooth and polished outer surface. Pref. the groove path (6) has a width of 1-10 mm, and has a rectangular cross section, or a rounded cross section. The groove walls are pitched from the narrow side plane (4) from 90 deg. - max. of 45 deg. within the groove path (6). The groove path (6) is mechanically finished with a tool matching the curvature of the die wall. The groove path is developed by planing or milling. Groove paths (6) run parallel to each other. The galvanished coating is applied to the surface of the narrow side (4) up to a thickness of about 1 mm. ADVANTAGE - Method improves the bonding of the cladding.
