The new titration compsn. for the determination of small amts. of water is a single reagent of the integral-modified Karl Fischer type consists of anhydrous Na acetate and a stabiliser in ratios to the SO2 of 0.2-7:1 and 1-15:1 resp., together with I2 and a solvent, each component having a water concn. of below 0.1%. A pref. compsn. comprises 0.2-4 mol I2, 0.2-7 mol Na acetate, 0.2-8 mol SO2, 0.1-1 mol solvent (pref. Me cellosolve) and 1-12 mol. stabiliser (pref. ethylene glycol). USE/ADVANTAGE - The non-toxic compsn. is more stable than known Karl Fischer reagents. - It is free of pyridine and other amines and can be used in determining small amts. of crystalline or liq. water in solids or liquids.
