PURPOSE: To perform high-speed communication by connecting a channel to a terminal adapter for converting equipment address specification information to network terminal information and converting data to be transmitted from a channel form into a form suitable for being transmitted through a high-speed data communication network to a desired terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION: An equipment 20 is connected to a channel 22, functioning as a data communication interface to the equipment. The channel 22 is connected to this terminal adapter 24 by half duplex data communication, and the respective directions of the communication are operated by 40.5 megabits/ second. Two kinds of messages are exchanged between the channel 22 and the terminal adapter 24. One is a signal message for bidirectionally signaling the change of a state and the request of state change with the channel 22, and the other is a data message. Thus, the communication is performed at a high speed.
