Apparatus which has two distanced rolls with a plurality of disc-like, intermeshing teeth. The rolls form a tight spot to which an absorbent card is fed for partial cutting. The card consists of long and short fibres. The apparatus separates the short fibres while leaving a certain number of long fibres joined in order to maintain a unitary structure. Advantageously, the teeth of a roll form intervals which are slightly wider than the thickness of the fibres compressed with the teeth of the other roll in order to allow the passage of the long fibres.
