NEW MATERIAL:A 4-pentene-1,3-dione derivative of formula I [R<1> is a group of formula II (X is H, halogen or nitro), cycloalkyl or alkoxyalkyl; R<2> is a group of formula III (Y is H, halogen or nitro) or cyloalkenyl; R<3> is lower alkyl; A is O or methylene; l and m are 1 or 2]. EXAMPLE:2-Methyl-5-(2-nitrophenyl)-1-phenyl-5-(1-pyridinyl)-4-pentene- 1,3-dione. USE:Useful as an intermediate for synthesizing 4(1H)-pyridinone derivatives having substituents unstable to strong bases. PREPARATION:As shown in the reaction equation, a compound of formula IV is reacted with a compound of formula V (B is halogen) in the presence of a base in a solvent such as acetone to provide the compound of formula I. |
