PURPOSE:To set more proper speed change characteristics corresponding to an operating condition of a lock up clutch by providing a reference value changing means for changing a reference value based on an operating condition of the lock up clutch. CONSTITUTION:A control unit U basically performs speed change control based on an economy mode, and it is changed to a power mode for speed change control when a throttle opening gets over a predetermined reference value. This reference value is determined by a map value set based on a throttle opening change ratio and a vehicle speed for parameters. For maps for changing into the power mode, two sorts of them are prepared, one having a lock up clutch 3A ON, and the other OFF. For the clutch 3A ON with which a torque increasing effect by a torque converter 3 cannot be expected, the reference value is set small for facilitating change into the power mode and satisfying an acceleration ability, and for the clutch 3A OFF with which the torque increasing effect by the converter 3 can be expected, the reference value is set large for achieving the similar acceleration ability to that for the clutch 3A ON. |
