PURPOSE:To detect the gravity direction of the tip part of an inserting part by constituting the device so that the gravity direction of the tip part side of the curved and directed inserting part is detected three-dimensionally by a detecting means which operated by a small ball which follows and moved in the gravity direction and detects three X, Y and Z axial directions. CONSTITUTION:In a position which does not obstruct an endoscope function in a tip part 3a, a three-axial direction detecting sensor 13 is provided internally. This sensor 13 is constituted so that a small ball 15a which follows in the gravity direction is contained in a cubic container 15 provided with pressure sensitive sensors 14, 14 on two opposed surfaces, and as for this container 15, three pieces are provided continuously so that each pressure sensitive sensor 14, 14 is turned to the X, Y and Z axial directions. To said pressure sensitive sensor 14, 14,..., a signal line 16 is connected, respectively, and this signal line 16 is inserted through an inserting part 3, an operating part 4 and the inside of a universal cord 4 and connected to a connector 5, and connected to a signal processing circuit 17 for detecting the gravity direction in a video processor 6 through this connector 5. It is mixed with a signal of an object to be photographed by a mixing circuit 18 and displayed on a monitor 19 as a gravity direction indicating image 21 together with an image 20 of the object to be photographed.
