In a drilling or milling machine tool &c. a spindle 4 is associated with a coaxial, rotatable, but axially stationary feed screw 18 having quick-pitch threads co-operating with a nut 16 rotatably but axially non-slidably mounted on the spindle, and means for clamping the nut on the screw. The spindle is rotated by a gear 8 on a sleeve 6 mounted in ball-, and roller-, bearings 10, 12. The nut carries a pair of blocks 24, 26 which can be clamped about the screw 18 to hold the spindle in an adjusted position. The blocks are moved by a screw 28 which moves in a slot 34 in a spindle housing 2. The blocks may be formed with threads engaging the crests and roots of the thread on the screw 18. In a modification, the nut is in two parts which are counter-rotated to clamp the screw. |
