PURPOSE: To transmit a digital signal with a sensitivity higher than that of an NRZ(non return to zero) or RZ code by an optical fiber system by substituting a simple binary pattern with a single pulse, based on the difference of a time position in the bit time. CONSTITUTION: The existence of one of an arbitrary number (n) of binary patterns, including at least 2 bits in each bit time, is detected. This bit time is divided into n equal time intervals to which n time positions are bound to, and a correspondence between n binary patterns and n time positions is established. When one of n binary patterns exists, a pulse occupying the corresponding time position is generated, and the next detection of the existence of one binary pattern is executed from a bit next to the last bit of the binary pattern whose existence was detected. |
