The fireplace includes a plinth on which there is fixed removably a heating body (4) the lower part of which forms a fireplace (5) and the upper part of which forms the chimney gathering (6) for smoke. In the plinth around the heating body is formed a heat exchange chamber (10) into which air is introduced by the means (11). The air is extracted from this chamber via an orifice made in a heat-proof lid (21) carried by a rear wall (18), two lateral walls (17) and a front wall (20). These walls are removable and heat proof. A lower wall (16) which is heat proof, is located in the plinth. Heat screens (39, 40) are located respectively under the heating body and behind the latter. One heat screen (65) equips the wall (20). Removable means are furthermore provided for locking the walls (17, 18 and 20) to the lid (21). <IMAGE>
