PURPOSE:To make it possible to prepare an electrode with lessened cracks and a long service life by giving spherical shape or a shape close to sphere to hydrogen occluding alloy and specifying the average particle size. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen occluding alloy for a battery has a spherical shape or a shape close to sphere and 1-100mum of particle size. An electrode with lessened cracks and a long service life is thus prepared. If the particle size is <1mum, a service life of a secondary battery having an anode prepared from the alloy is shortened and on he other hand if the particle size is >100mum, voltage of the battery is lowered, and it is extreme especially at the time of discharging at a high rate the average particle size of the hydrogen occluding alloy is limited within the defined range.
