Novel compounds having acyl-coenzyme A: cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) inhibitory activity rendering them useful in controlling blood cholesterol levels of the formula wherein Ar is phenyl or 1- or 2-naphthyl, each of which may be substituted or unsubstituted; m and n are zero, one, or two; R3 and R4 are hydrogen or an alkyl group which may be substituted on the terminal carbon with hydroxy or an amine group, or R3 is hydrogen and R4 is the group -NHR10 wherein R10 is hydrogen, -C(=O)-alkyl C1-4, -C(=O)-O-t-C4H9, or -C(=O)OCH2C6H5; and R1 and R2 are hydrogen or an aliphatic, a substituted aliphatic, a substituted alicyclicaliphatic group, a heteroaliphatic group or NR1R2 taken together forms a monocyclic heterocyclic group.
