The invention concerns a procedure and equipment for elimination of calender barring. The calender 10 comprises a lower roll 12 together with rolls 13,14,15 which are arranged in a roll stack and mounted above the lower roll in the frame 11 of the calender by means of loading levers 16. The bearing housing 20 of rolls 13,14,15 is supported by the said levers 16. According to the invention, at least one roll 13,14,15, which lies above the lower roll 12, is moved relative to its load levers 16 when the rolls 12-15 are mounted in place, and this is done such that the said roll 13,14,15 is shifted in overlapping fashion from the common nip plane A-A of the roll stack. In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, all rolls 13,14,15 lying above the lower roll 12 are shifted in overlapping fashion from the common nip plane A-A such that the displacements a1,a2,a3 of the respective rolls 13,14,15 from the common nip plane A-A are of different amounts and/or in different directions. <IMAGE>
