摘要 Light metal components are provided with a wear-resistant coating in an electrolytic process using an electrolyte which produces a coating of silicon carbide particles dispersed in an iron support layer. The electrolyte compsn. is pref. 450-500 g/l FeSO47H2O; 30-40 g/l H3BO4; 0-0.1 g/l H2PO2; 10-45 SiC powder. The Fe powder is continually added to the dispersion bath contg. the electrolyte with a magnet keeping the Fe away from the component to be coated. The SiC particles are held in suspension by a stirrer. The electrolyte is selectively cleaned by passing through a container (14) containing steel sheets (15). Unwanted ions, are cemented out of the solution by Fe from the sheets. The electrolyte is fed from the dispersion bath (1) to the coating bath (6) via electromagnet (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for coating parts in a combustion engine. The silicon carbide coating is more cheaply produced than prior art coating employing an Ni dispersion layer.
