PURPOSE:To obtain the secondary battery excellent in stability, having high electro motive force, maximum output and energy density and withstanding repeated use by using a carbonaceous material having specified pseudographitic structure and electronic structure as the electrode material. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous material obtained by carbonizing an org. compd. such as naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride, having a pseudographitic structure with >=3.40Angstrom interplanar spacing (d002) of the (002) face obtained from X-ray wide-angle diffraction and <=220Angstrom size (Lc) of the crystallite in the C-axis direction and having an electronic structure with >=7 gauss peak-to- peak width ( Hpp) of the primary differential absorption spectrum of electron spin resonance is formed as an electrode on a support such as glass-fiber filter, and the electrode is used as a positive electrode or a negative electrode. The perchlorates of alkali metal, alkaline-earth metal, tetraalkylammonium, etc., are used as an electrolyte, and the electrolyte is held by a separator set between both electrodes to obtain a secondary battery. |
