Process for obtaining 4-arylalkoyl-1-(3- pyridylcyanomethyl)piperazines of formula I, in which: Ar is phenyl and naphthyl; X is a covalent bond, - CH2-, -CH2-CH2-, -CH2-CH2-CH2-, > CHMe, > CHPh, >CmePh, [-CHPh- CH2-, CH2-CHPh-, -CH2-CH2-CHPh-, -CH2-CH(CH2Ph)-, [- CH = CH-, -CH=CPh-, or -CPh=CH-. The said process comprises reacting 2-piperazinyl-2(3-pyridyl)acetonitrile with: a) an acid of general formula Ar-X-COOH (where X and Ar have the meanings defined above) in the presence of dicyclohexyl carbodiimide and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole in N-N-dimethylformamide; or b) the acid chloride derivative of an acid of general formula Ar-X-COOOH (where X and Ar have the meanings defined above) in the presence of triethylamine in chloroform. The said compounds are PAF antagonists and are therefore useful in the treatment of diseases in which the said substance is involved. <IMAGE>
