A rubber suspension member contg. reinforcement and partic. a mounting to hold the exhaust pipe on a car body, is basically annular in shape with two gripping areas fo retg. hooks set diametrically opposite each other. The incorporated reinforcement is corrugated at the parts which are subject to tension and lie between the gripping areas. The figure shows the prod. in the unstretched state. It is designed to hold an exhaust pipe by gripping parts (1,2) which engage suitable retg. hooks (3,4) of which one is attached to the car body and the other to the pipe. Round the rubber prod. it contains a high modulus annular reinforcing layer (5) at the centre of its thickness. Between the two gripping sections (1,2) this layer (5) is looped ot corrugated for about 1/6 of the circumference, elsewhere it has no such features. These loops etc. allow the layer (5) to stretch elastically. The layer (5) can be e.g. perforated to allow the rubber to pass through and bond better. The diametrical cross-member (7) shown does not require to contain the reinforcement. ADVANTAGE - The prod. has a long service life. It generates little noise or vibrations in service.
