A scroll compressor in which an axially extending minute space in the compression chamber is ensured by energizing the revolving scroll (18) toward the compression chamber while utilizing the pressure of discharged refrigerant gas introduced into the side of the revolving scroll (18) opposite to the compression chamber, and chip seals (98) are disposed in the spiral chip seal group (98) formed only on the tips of revolving scroll laps (18a) with a minute gap permitted so that expansion of the axially extending gap may be prevented by energization with pressure of discharge refrigerant gas introduced into the back-pressure chamber (39) of the revolving scroll (18) so as to press the revolving scroll (18) toward a stationary scroll (15). Thus, the gaps in the axial direction between the tips of spiral laps of the revolving scroll (18) and the stationary scroll (15), at which compressed gas is liable to leak because of dimensional fluctuation arising from the combination of component parts of both scrolls, can be sealed surely and tightly by the chip seals (98a), whereby a minute gap (substantially no gap) in the axial direction between the tips of spiral laps of the stationary scroll (15) and the revolving scroll (18) can easily be maintained and tight sealing is possible even at the time of absence of chip seals, thereby continuous driving with less leakage of compressive pressure during normal operation being enabled. |
