A hydrophilic polymer/silicate mineral composite having an IR absorption at 1000-1300 cm-1 not assignable to the starting materials, consists of a carboxylated hydrophilic polymer and a water-swellable silicate mineral. The polymer is pref. poly(meth)acrylic acid, carboxymethylcellulose, hyaluronic acid, xanthan gum, gum arabic or alginic acid. The silicate is pref. a water-swellable micro-grain silica or a lamellar silicate. The gel strength of the composite is 15700-127000 dyne/cm2 for a polyacrylic acid/lamellar silicate composite, 9800-11800 dyne/cm2 for a polyacrylic acid/micrograin silica and 1960-58000 dyne/cm2 for a polysaccharide/lamellar silicate composite (as a 1wt.% gel in water). Also claimed is a gel perfume compsn. contg. the above composite (0.1-90% wt); perfume (1-99.0%); alcohol-based organic solvent (0-90%); non-ionic surfactant (0-40%) and the balance water. |
