A thermally insulating pitched roof has insulation between the rafters and layers held beneath which are porous to water vapour and which are fixed to the rafters by battens. Above the layers concerned approx. U-shaped members are fixed on round the sides of the rafters so that the layers are pressed downwards by the arms of the inverted U-shape. The U-members are pref. made partly of soft polyurethane foam, alternatively they are made of compressed mineral fibres. ADVANTAGE - The construction prevents the penetration of water at or under the battened area. It is free from thermal "bridges". It provides insulation from air-borne noise.
