Appts. (esp. a filter) for (partial) sepn. of the liq. portion of a turbid liq. has a cylindrical chamber which has a liq. permeable wall and contg. drive disc rotor, the surface of which is mobile w.r.t. the wall. The novelty is that the rotor faces facing the wall have several protuberances of small radial extent and pref. mutually offset in the radial direction. ADVANTAGE - Fotor has reduced resistance to rotation in the liq. compared with rotors with a continuous protuberance produces local eddy currents at the filter cake surface for long term uniform liq. permeability and produces locallised eddy trains behind each protuberance for forced liq. turbulence in the peripheral direction the liq. subjected to only relatively large area transverse motions in the plane of the rotor face, as the eddy trains abate, so relatively calm zone can be formed at low rotational speed.
