A biosensor for the selective determination of enzymatically convertible substances such as glucose comprises electrodes arranged on an inert support and an oxidase such as glucose oxidase (GOD) immobilized on a polypyrrol layer. The polymer layer contains at least one permselective porous layer of N- or 3-substituted polypyrrol the substitution of which is chosen so that the redox activity and, if necessary, the conductivity is substantially less than that of polypyrrol layers.
