859,475. Tube couplings. ELECTROLUX Ltd. Jan. 9, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1957], No. 886/58. Class 99(1). In a coupling for connecting together overlapping coaxial tubes 16, 17, for instance, the tubes of a telecsope conduit of a vacuum cleaner, a nylon clamping sleeve 22 resiliently engaging the tube 17 is mounted in a nylon nut 25 and is constrained to move along the tube 17 with the nut 25, the latter co-operating with an externally threaded split nylon ring 20, mounted on the tube 16, so as to increase the engagement of the sleeve 22 with the tube 17. As shown, the ring 20 is provided internally with projections 21 which engage in openings19 in the tube 16. The sleeve 22 is partially divided into resilient sections and is provided at one end with a wedge shaped portion which, when the nut 25 is screwed tight, engages a flared flange 18 on the tube 16 so as to lock the tubes together. |
